Elasto-capillary necking, bulging and Maxwell states in soft compressible cylinders

چکیده
Localized pattern formations and "two-phase" deformations are studied theoretically in soft compressible cylinders subject to surface tension axial loading through several force-controlled scenarios. By drawing upon known results for separate yet mathematically similar elastic localization problems, a concise family of analytical bifurcation conditions localized bulging or necking derived terms general strain energy function. The effect material compressibility strain-stiffening behaviour on the point is analysed, comparisons between our theoretical corresponding numerical simulation Dortdivanlioglu Javili (Extreme Mech. Lett. 55, 2022) made. It then explained how fully developed (Maxwell) state which evolves from initial solution can be comprehensively understood using simple expressions force parameters primary deformation. power this approach validating phase-separation-like problems nature highlighted

Compressible Euler-Maxwell Equations
The Euler-Maxwell equations as a hydrodynamic model of charge transport of semiconductors in an electromagnetic field are studied. The global approximate solutions to the initial-boundary value problem are constructed by the fractional Godunov scheme. The uniform bound and H−1 compactness are proved. The approximate solutions are shown convergent by weak convergence methods. Then, with some new...
متن کاملModeling of elasto-capillary phenomena.
Surface energy is an important factor in the deformation of fluids but is typically a minimal or negligible effect in solids. However, when a solid is soft and its characteristic dimension is small, forces due to surface energy can become important and induce significant elastic deformation. The interplay between surface energy and elasticity can lead to interesting elasto-capillary phenomena. ...
متن کاملElasto-capillary coalescence of multiple parallel sheets
We analyse two-dimensional clamped parallel elastic sheets which are partially immersed in liquid as a model for elasto-capillary coalescence. In the existing literature this problem is studied via minimal energy analysis of capillary and elastic energies of the post-coalescence state, yielding the maximal stable post-coalescence bundle size. Utilizing modal stability analysis and asymptotic an...
متن کاملVisco-Elasto-Capillary Thinning and Break-Up of Complex Fluids
The progressive break-up of an initially stable fluid column or thread into a number of smaller droplets is an important dynamical process that impacts many commercial operations from spraying and atomization of fertilizers and pesticides, to paint application, roll-coating of adhesives and food processing operations such as containerand bottle-filling. The progressive thinning of a fluid filam...
متن کاملTunable capillary-induced attraction between vertical cylinders.
Deformation of a fluid interface caused by the presence of objects at the interface can lead to large lateral forces between objects. We explore these fluid-mediated attractive force between partially submerged vertical cylinders. Forces are experimentally measured by slowly separating cylinder pairs and cylinder triplets after capillary rise is initially established for cylinders in contact. F...
